J. H. McClure
Note: Lacy sells his share of his father's homeplace to his brother-in-law, John Harris Ray Sr. We are not sure why the delay of filing, except that this was done within the family and had to be formalized later. Note the crossing out of deceased before Clarence Cook's place - it was actually Lacy's uncle Luther Cook's at the time of sale. Both of his uncles, Luther Cook and David Hattaway, were deceased at the time this document was made formal. If Pop Teal refers to Lacy's aunt, Mary Hattaway Teal, she would also have been deceased at the time of filing.

About 1923, Owen and Allie left Georgia and moved to Upthegrove Beach, FL, where Owen's sister, Eliza, and her husband, Rob Upthegrove, lived. About the time of the devastating 1928 hurricane, they lived at Sand Cut and Port Mayaca. Owen worked for Bessemer Corporation at Port Mayaca and lived across from what became Port Mayaca Cemetery as a result of the 1928 hurricane. Thousands of people killed during the hurricane were brought in by rail car and buried in a mass grave. Owen and Allie were given cemetery lots there as one of his benefits as an employee of Bessemer. About 1929 or 1930, Owen and Allie moved to Indiantown, FL, where they would live the rest of their lives.

Owen brought the first schoolbus (a truck he had modified) to Indiantown and was a trustee and member of Martin County (FL) School board, serving some 25 years in that capacity. For a period of many years, he operated restaurants (first the "Seminole Cafe" then "Jewel's Restaurant"), a grocery store, Hataway Feed Store, and several gas stations in Indiantown before retiring at age 81. He served as Justice of the Peace in Indiantown for many years and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1283 in Stuart. He was also a charter member of Dunklin Memorial Baptist Church.
