Notes for Robert S. Wright: Obituary Of Robert Wright (The Huntsville Democrat)- March 1847
"Another Revolutionary Patriot gone. Departed this life on the 24th instant, Robert Wright, Sr., a Patriot of the Revolution, aged 85 years 17 days. He was a native of Amherst Co., VA, was at the seige of York, and assisted in the capture of Cornwallis.
He emigrated to Madison Co. AL in 1808, where he continued until the day of his death, greatly esteemed and beloved by a large circle of friends and acquaintances."
Robert Wright entered the Virginia State Militia and was subsequently inducted into the Patriot Army of the War of 1776 -- the American Revolution.
In the year 1813, Robert Wright entered or purchased 160 acres of land near Flint River, upon which he lived until his death.
Following his death, this obituary was published in the Huntsville Democrat and largely copied by various newspapers. Extracts from various newspapers in Alabama Records, Volume 35, in Washington, D.C., shows the death notice: "Departed this life on the 24th instant March (1847) Robert Wright, Senior, a patriot of the Revolution, aged 85 years and seventeen days, native of Amhurst County, Virginia. Was at the siege of York, and assisted in the capture of Cornwallis, emigrated to Madison County, Alabama in 1808 where he continued to reside until the day of his death, greatly esteemed and believed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances."
