Notes for William Of Lincoln's Inn Ball: Name Prefix: Capt On September 1, 1623, William Ball, Son and heir of John Ball of Wokingham, gentleman, was admitted to Lincoln's Inn, London to commence his studies as a lawyer. He was practicing at law in 1630. The date of his appointment ot one of the four attorneyships in The Office of Pleas in the Exchequer Court. is not certain but it must lie between 1630 and 1634, when his own statement in the recorded pedigree attests the fact. He recorded his Ball pedigree at the Hearalds Visitation of London in 1634/35 which is now amongst the records of College of Arms. This pedigree is printed in Visitations of Berkshire,1, 62. His will leaves legacies to his daughters, Elizabeth, Mary, Susan, and Sarah and to his sons Richard and Samuel. The ommission of specific legacies to the widow and Alice and son William, would seem to support the probability that arrangements had been made before November 1647 for the future fortunes of the widow and eldest son. It is believed that he sailed, with most of his family, for America on the English ship "Planter", in April of 1635.
