He and two other boys went awol to go to grannies house saying he would not go to war til he told his mother goodbye. 16 all together went awol to say bye to their mothers. He was shipped out to France during ww1. He was turned in by Earl Ross, and all were arrested and taken back. Bad feelings between the two families after that. Ross was shipped out too! He suffered sheel shock for the rest of his life.
