* Eisen Family Tree*

Updated October 6, 2009

One of my paternal great-grandfathers, David Gendleman, was born 1830 in Drajnaw, Russia. His name at birth was David Hirsch Eisen.

During the Tsarís reign, Jewish families were limited to one son. Any additional ones were either killed or conscripted into the army. (Not much difference.) Being the second son of Laizer (Eleazer) and Chaye Laie (Chaia Leah/Channah) Eisen, he was given over to another family to be raised. In deference to them, he changed his name to theirs: Gendleman.

Among his 13 children, was my grandmother Sarah (born 1888 in Rovna, Russia), who came to this country where her name was changed to Edelman. She married my grandfather Louis (born 1889 in Trochenbrod/Trachimbrod/Sofiyovka, Belarus) and became an Eisen all over again.

Sarah & Lou were first cousins once removed; Lou was Davidís great nephew.

We can trace back to Davidís grandfather Jonah (born c. 1780 in Russia) and forward six generations -- 9 generations in all.

I am willing to share information and am anxious for additional input. The tree -- and individuals -- can be researched at ancestry.com and quite extensively through geni.com Enjoy!
