Notes for Effie Alverda McKenzie:
Virginias Ott's grandmother
When she was three years old her parents homesteaded southeast of Woodruff, Kansas. The family lived in a dugout, sod walled house that they built.
Lyman and Sophronia lived on the homestead for 32 years, when Lyman died.
Sophronia bought a house in the town of Woodruff and lived out rest of her life there. Her daughter Bessie and her husband James McCann moved in with her and at the end was there to care for her. Sophronia was 85 years old at the time of her death and had been nearly blind since the age of 9.Apparently when she was about 50 or 55 she had a cataract operation that wasn't preformed correctily and resulted in total blindness for the rest of her life. Lyman was blind for the last years of his life also.
