Notes for Alexander MacKenzie:
Alexandercame to Canada at the age 18, and became a fur trader and explorer, probably in the employment of the Hudson Bay Company. In 1789 he and a party of men left Fort Chipewyan on Lake Athabasca, with some indain guides. In hopes of finding a direct route across Canada to the Pacific Ocean.He ended up in the Arctic Ocean.After going to London, England to learn travel by sextant. So three years after his first attempt to cross Canada, he got a party together for a more success attempt this time. In so doing became the first european to accomplish this feate. He was knighted and thereafter was know as Sir Alexander MacKenzie. After making a large fortune as a fur trader he returned to Scotland and spent his last years there dieing in 1820.
