Martin Baker
Charleston - Martin C. Baker, 97, of 1905 20th St. died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dectur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Harper-Swickard Chapel.Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 ;.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Baker was born Aug. 10, 1882 in Richland County, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Baker.He married Estella Shaw, Sept. 10, 1902 at Claremont, Ill.She died Feb. 10, 1976.
Surviving are two sons, Mervin Baker and Leo Baker, both of Charleston;three daughters, Mrs. Burl(Marjorie) Schnorf of Charleston, Mrs. Alberta Allen of Decatur and Mrs. Pauline Askins of Shelbyville;18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Baker, a retired carpenter, served as a building inspector and as a park commissioner for the city of Charleston.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.
