Esther Mitchell Eichelberger, per her birth certificate, was the oldest daughter of Elizabeth Young Mitchell and Joseph Krall Eichelberger.Her earliest memories are the years she lived with her grandmother, Mary Ann Hadfield Mitchell, widow of Hugh Mitchell, in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.A picture of the homestead with the children in the yard is in the possession of her daughter, Jeanne Lewis.
Esther changed her name to Elizabeth when a child, according to her, because of a girl who sat in front of her in school, also named Esther, had head lice.Elizabeth was ever, to the end, quite vain about her appearance.Elizabeth married John Weaver, Jr. in Philadelphia, in March of 1929.According to her birth records she would have been23 years of age.
Elizabeth and John had 6 children; June Elizabeth, John Mitchell, Imogene, Sandra Irene, Paul Council and David Lee.John was in the military service for almost all of their married life.He retired fully in 1953 and they were divorced in 1955 (or 1956).
Elizabeth remarried after many years to Dellie Shreeves.They lived all their married life in Norfolk, Virginia.Dellie died in 1985.John and Elizabeth remarried in March of 1986, in Thomasville, Georgia.John died in October of 1988 and Elizabeth remained in Thomasville until December of 1993, when she went to live in Venice, Florida with her daughter.
Elizabeth suffered from dementia and heart problems, however she danced and sang at her ninetieth birthday.
Elizabeth died in her sleep at 7:30 PM on the evening of September 3, 1998.She walked from the dining room to her room at Harborside Healthcare, Venice, Florida, and lay down on her bed to take a nap.
In October Elizabeth was buried in Bushnel National Cemetary, with service performed by Rev. Katharine Ryan, from St. David's Episcopal Church, Englewood, Florida, where she had attended with her daughter, Jeanne.
In the summer of 1989, Elizabeth's daughter, Jeanne and son-in-law Robert (Bob) carried some of Elizabeth's ashes to Hamption National Cemetary where some were placed in the grave of her father, Joseph Krall Eichelberger.A memorial service was performed by Bob & Jeanne with her grandchildren, Lori Gayle Cox Ayers and her husband Philip Ayers, and Ronald Lee Cox and great grandchildren, Joeyand Josh Brewer, Jimmy, Crystal and Jessie Cox, the children of Lori Gayle and her first husband Breewer and Merle Eugene Cox, in attendance.
Following the services, Jeanne and Bob traveled to New Jersey, to the Villas, a small town where Elizabeth's mother and father had lived until her mother's death.The rest of Elizabeth's ashes were place in the grave of her mother.
