The oldest house in Pleasant View, TN. was built by Joe Bradley on Scott Hill. With the help of slaves, he made bricks to build the house. The second house he built was from the bricks of the first and is still standing in the year 2000. It has port holes through which they fought Indians. On this property is the burial grounds of the earliest Bradley ancestors. The only markers were small stones of slab. Mary Frances Bradley has a large foot marker placed there which reads:
Major Ben Bradley
Captain John J. Bradley
Their father, Joe. Bradley of North Carolina and other settlers.
The military terms were applied to them because the community was organized to fight the Indians.
