HAROLD M. "MONK" MATHIS, 62, of Pitman, died Wednesday in Glassboro.

Mr. Mathis was a life member of the Highland Chemical Engine Company of Pitman, where he served as captain, assistant chief and chief. He was a member of the New Jersey State Firemen's Association, the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen's Association and the Gloucester County Firemen's Association. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Pitman, where he served on the board of trustees. Mr. Mathis was a lineman who belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 211. He was a 1948 graduate of Pitman High School and was born in Woodbury.

Survivors: his wife, Judy A. Lynch Mathis; two daughters, Wendy A. Lex of Pitman and Cindi S. Menszak of Glassboro; five grandchildren, and a brother, Eugene V. Jr. of Pitman.

Services: visitation, 9:30 A.M. today, Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman; funeral, 11 A.M. today at the funeral home; burial, Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hurffville.
