Our original ancestors arrived to California in 1782 and were instrumental in the founding and establishment of the Presidio and mission at Santa Barbara. My Great-granfather was a stonemason as was his father, grandfather and great-granfather. He maintained Santa Barbara Mission, did work at San Luis Rey Mission and built a mission on the Mescalero Indain Reservation in New Mexico for Father Albert Braun.
I have gathered a great deal of family history which I hope to incorporate in a book of the family. I have met several relatives in my research which has been an incentive for me to continue. I invite anyone who maybe related to contact me. The Leyva/Leiva family was a large family and I am sure still is.
