She was born August 07, 1875 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota6, and died October 01, 1950 in Spokane, Spokane Co. Washington7.

The Whitman County Genealogical Society in their April 2000 Newsletter lists J. N. Shine as a witness to the marriage of John S. McKensie and Viola E. Kramer on February 22, 1894 at the residence of the bride's father in Tekoa, Washington.

In a telephone call to the Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home in Spokane, Washington on June 6, 2000 it was learned that Jeremiah N. Shine had three brothers at the time of his death on June 24th, 1925: B.B. Shine of Green*, Mt or MI (The latter part of the town Green* was difficult to read as it had been written in pencil. The MT or MI could have been Montana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri or Mississippi.), D.C. or D.G. Shine of Chicago and E.P. Shine of Kansas City, Missouri. His occupation was listed as Railroad Agent and Watchman.

TEACHER NURSE VICTIM DISEASE
Pneumonia, Contracted While Doing Volunteer Nursing, Causes Death Miss Martha Shine

Falling a victim to the disease suffered by patients whom she volunteered to nurse while the schools at Clarkia, where she was engaged as a teacher, were closed, Miss Martha Ellen Shine, aged 20 years, died at her home in Mace yesterday. When Spanish influenza became epidemic on this county and the schools were closed she returned to her home in Mace.

It was found that there was a serious shortage of nurses so she offered he services as a volunteer and was accepted. She served in various homes and then was stricken herself. The influenza developed into pneumonia and yesterday she passed away despite the best of medical services.

The deceased is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Shine, well known residents of Mace, where their daughter was born and raised. She was 20 years of age and besides her parents is survived by a sister and brother and a host of friends who will mourn her loss.

The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Worstell undertaking parlors and the interment will be made at Greenmount cemetery.
