I am trying to preserve our family history for future generations. Most of the research on the TATE family has been done by Mrs. Ethel Updike and published in a book "Tate and Allied Families of the South" - last published in 1972. She is no longer living, so I have endeavored to contact as many as possible and bring it up to date - I present this as a lead into your own research; it is not to be accepted as proof - I am a descendant of James Tate, and his lineage and service has been proved as recently as 1995 (DAR accepted)- The Pruett data is also recent; this is my maiden name; my mother was a TATE. Other lines (maternal) Bolin, Hooper-Brookes-White, Cantrell, Thagard, Jessup. My paternal line, PRUETT; we are related to Griffin, Hamilton, Keenan, Carleton/Carlton, Mathis. I was of the fifth generation who lived in Gibson County, Tennessee. The original land pioneered by Thomas Pruett and his wife Sarah(Sally) Estes is still in the family. Thanks to all who have helped me gather this data; especially Elizabeth Sinclair, Julia White, William P. Keenan, and especially to Alfred W. Tate (Bill) who has been our Tate family Historian for more than one-half century. He just celebrated his 9 2 birthday and continues his avid interest in family; our clan is especially grateful to him for his work on the Stanford, White, Watson, Furlow, and the latest generations of the TATE family. Currently we are trying to locate the parents of Robert Donathan Bolin.
