PETER LIMBAUGH (c1770-1846) OF FRANKLIN COUNTY, TENNESSEE
Peter Limbach (later spelled Limbaugh. Limbough and less frequently Limbo) and Anna Maria Lingel (later spelled Lingle) were married on July 28, 1791, by Carl A. G. Storch (1764-1831) a Lutheran minister who served several churches in Rowan and Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Peter, born about 1770 probably in Pennsylvania, is thought to be the son of Frederick Limbach and Anna Catherine Ritter of Northhampton County, Pennsylvania. Frederick was the son of Johannes Limbach and his wife Maria Margaret. This family arrived at Philadelphia on September 26, 1753. Frederick Limbach, a native of Germany, was naturalized September 21, 1767. Anna Catherine Ritter was the daughter of Paul Ritter and his wife Maria Elizabeth. After the Revolutionary War, Frederick and other members of the family moved to Mecklinburg County, North Carolina (this area became Cabarrus County in 1792) and settled on land near the Rowan County line on "Dutch Buffalow Creek" where Peter grew to manhood. Anna Maria was the daughter of Lorenz Lingel and his wife Eva Catherina, who had moved from Pennsylvania to Rowan County, North Carolina, about 1759. Lorenz was a native of Germany and was naturalized by the Salisbury District Court on 22 Sep 1763. Lorenz and Eva Catherina lived out their lives in Rowan County.

Peter and Anna Maria made their home in Cabarrus County. Peter's brother Henry married Mary Margaret Hise, daughter of Conrad Hise (c1755-1816) and Sophia Speck (c1755-1850) on December 5, 1793 in Cabarrus County. Shortly after 1800 the brothers moved their families to Burke County, North Carolina. By 1811 Henry had moved to Missouri joining father Frederick and other relatives who had moved there about 1800. About 1816 Peter moved from Burke County to Franklin County, Tennessee. Peter and Anna Maria had eleven children, all born in North Carolina.
