| My parents were Warren Nelson Lindley and Juanita Ella DeWitt Lindley. I have much information on several of my lines. I have, however, been unable to find much information on my paternal great great grandfather, Jared Luther Lindley and my maternal great grandfather, George Coleman DeWitt. They are the major brick walls in my research. JARED LUTHER LINDLEY He was born about 1830 in Ohio, probably in the area of Cincinnati. His first wife was Mary E. (possible maiden name was Williams or Williamson). They had two children, William and Amanda Jane, both born in Ohio in the early 1860s. After moving to Iowa Mary E. died and Jared then married a widow named Mary Elizabeth Cooley Flinn. She had several children by her first husband. A family story states that Jared fought with his two brothers and they went their separate ways, one to Arkansas, one to Texas and Jared to Iowa. True or false? I have yet to discover the answer but I think there might be a lot of truth to the story. My father knew two brothers from Arkansas and one was almost a carbon copy of one of Jared's sons. GEORGE COLEMAN DeWITT Born in Eaton Rapids, Michigan in 1845, he was a Civil War Veteran. He married Eliza Ellen Ford and lived in Winterset, Madison County, Iowa when my grandfather, John Emory DeWitt was born in 1876. He later moved to Des Moines and is buried in Woodland Cemetery there. He was in the Civil War and lived in the Old Soldier's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa at the time of his death in 1919. This is about all I have on the lives of these two men. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am always glad to share the information I have with anyone who is researching my lines. NELSON PETER JONES I am also searching for more information on my gr-grandfather, Nelson Peter Jones. He was the father-in-law of my grandfather, William Haynes Lindley. He was from Sweden and immigrated about 1869. His father was Jonas Nelson and he had three brothers, John, Andrew and Charles. UPDATE: I have recently made contact with a 4th cousin from Sweden. She and I have been exchanging information and pictures. Very exciting. I have also made contact with two cousins from my Follon line. This is a work in progress. Not every fact I have in my information has been proven. I include unproven information (hopefully marked as such) so it can be used as a place for more research. Please feel free to contact me if you have different information, whether proven or unproven. Who knows, it might be the missing piece to this puzzle. |
