8. The History and Directory of Yates County, New York published in 1873, Was born in Warwick, Orange County, New York in 1782, and learned his trade as a miller. He came to this country at an early date, and operated for some time the mill of Daniel Shannon on Indian Run. In 1810 he married Patty, daughter of Andrew Raplee. She was born in 1793. They settled near the west line of Starkey and the south line of De Witt's Patent, where they resided sixty years. He was a soldier in the War of 1812. Both are still alive in 1871. Their children were John J., William, Andrew, Katy Ann, Daniel S., Madison, Chauncey, Eliza Jane, Mary and Candace.

Tragedy struck in Kalkaska County early Tuesday morning, November 25, when Morris Meehan was killed. - Meehan and Dale Wagenschutz were chasing deer in a field 7 miles east of Kalkaska on M-72, and a quarter of a mile south. The accident occured about 4:40 a.m. Tuesday. Wagenschutz was driving Meehan's car when they apparently hit a rut or hole, causing the car to roll over. Meehan was thrown through the window which was open, and pinned beneath the car, causing his death instantly. - The car was only slightly damaged and Wagenschutz was not injured. The Sheriff's department is not pressing charges against Wagenschutz. - Morris Robert Meehan was 21 years of age, born October 17, 1937, at Kinross. - Surviving are his mother, Mildred, of Kalkaska; two sisters, Irene and Etta of Flint; and four brothers, Wilfred of Seattle, Wash., John of Kinross, William of Sault Ste. Marie, and Jerome at home. Record of Service Michigan Volunteers in the Civil War, Volume 2, 2nd Michigan Infantry, Page 175, Burton Historical Collection, Detroit Public Library, Woodward Avenue, Detroit, Wayne County, MI, The "Record of Service Michigan Volunteers in the Civil War", records that both Emerson, age 21, and Emery, age 23, enlisted in Company I, 2nd Infantry on 22 April 1861 at Kalamazoo, MI for three years and were mustered 25 May, 1861. Emerson was in the first and second battles of Bull Run and with Gen. McClellan on the Peninsula. He was wounded on 24 November 1863 at the siege of Knoxville. From 30 January 1864 to 09 April 1864, he was attached to Company I of the 17th Michigan Infantry. Private Emerson Vance was honorably discharged on 21 July 1864 at Detroit and returned to Clinton County. His brother, Emery, died on 06 July 1861 of typhoid fever at Camp Winfield Scott, Alexandria, Virginia. On Emerson's application for a military pension, he states he is 5' 9" tall, with light complexion, dark hair and blue eyes.
300. Obituary for Emerson Vance, "Emerson Vance, widely known and greatly honored for his sterling integrity of character, died Sunday, February 20, at his daughter's home in Ionia, aged 70 years. The funeral was held at Pewamo the following Tuesday and burial was at East Plains Cemetery, Lebanon. Mr. Vance was one of the first white children born in Lebanon, and with the exception of the years he spent in the Civil War, and a few years passed in the village of Pewamo, his entire life was spent in the township". 335. The History and Directory of Yates County, New York published in 1873, Was born in Warwick, Orange County, New York in 1782, and learned his trade as a miller. He came to this country at an early date, and operated for some time the mill of Daniel Shannon on Indian Run. In 1810 he married Patty, daughter of Andrew Raplee. She was born in 1793. They settled near the west line of Starkey and the south line of De Witt's Patent, where they resided sixty years. He was a soldier in the War of 1812. Both are still alive in 1871. Their children were John J., William, Andrew, Katy Ann, Daniel S., Madison, Chauncey, Eliza Jane, Mary and Candace.

He came to this country at an early date, and operated for some time the mill of Daniel Shannon on Indian Run. In 1810 he married Patty, daughter of Andrew Raplee. She was born in 1793. They settled near the west line of Starkey and the south line of De Witt's Patent, where they resided sixty years. He was a soldier in the War of 1812. Both are still alive in 1871. Their children were John J., William, Andrew, Katy Ann, Daniel S., Madison, Chauncey, Eliza Jane, Mary and Candace.
