1754-1771 he was taxed in Little Britain Twp. Lancaster Co. PA.
Moved to Berkeley Co. VA about 1773;moved to Ft. Harrod, Mercer Co. Ky about 1783.A group of Presbyterians settled there on Salt River in 1783.
James Hanna was granted 1000 acres in Jefferson Co. KY near Harrodsburg, on Drenning Lick Creek on 01 June 1785.1795, James Hanna was taxed in Mercer Co., KY, district of James Clark, for 4 horses and 21 cows.The Hanna family established an "Accounting House", the forerunner of banking in KY.(Source: Found most of the data on James Hanna in folder on Hanna/Hannah family history in library in Harrodsburg, KY)Also data on James and family is found in "Hanna of Castle Sorbie, Scotland, and Descendants" by The Rev. Family tradition reported by George Enoch Hanna who was son of Thomas Jefferson Hanna, the son of James Hanna and Martha Pogue/Poague:"James Hanna and wife Martha migrated from N. Ireland in 1760, tarried a while in PA, moved to Berkeley Co., VA, and then to Mercer Co., KY.Four of their children, Stephen, James, Adam and Hannah moved from Mercer Co. KY to Shelby Co.This second James married Martha Pogue/Poague.Our ancestor William Hannah went to KY with the family but returned to Berkeley Co. VA where his children were born.I don't know if Sarah Jane accompanied him to KY.Their oldest son,David Hannah was born in Berkeley Co. VA in 1774.
Records show at least 12 children of James and Martha Hanna.The order of birth has not been proven.There are discrepancies in the data of different researchers.

"IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN.The 23rd Day of March & Year of our Lord one thousand Seven Hundred & Seventy three.I, Charles Vance of the Township of Cumberland County of York & Province of Pennsylvania being weak in body but of perfect Mind & Memory Thanks be given unto God.Therefore calling to mind the mortality of my Body& knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die Do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament That is to say Principally & first of all I recommend my Soul into the Hands of God who gave it And my Body to the Dust to be buried in a decent Christian like manner at the discretion of my ExecutorsNothing doubting but that at the last Day they shall be reunited by the mighty power of GodAnd touching Such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased almighty God to Bless me in this life I do bequeath give devise & dispose of in the following manner,Viz. Sarah, Hannah and Mary the sum of One Hundred Pounds lawful money to each provided So much remain after former Bequeathments to be paid as soon as Money can be collected to each their proportion of what money may be in the Hands of my Executors.It is my Will that no money be collected until it becomes legally Due and further if anything remain of my Estate after these Bequeathments it is my will that it be equally divided amongst my Legatees except four pounds which I allow to be given to repair the Meeting Houses of Toms Creek & Piney Creek to be equally divided between them.And the disposal of my Books I leave to the discretion of my Executors to be by them divided among my Legatees And as to the Hundred & Fifty above ordered to be laid out on Interest, it is my will & I do Order that after my wifes decease fifty pounds of it be given to my Son Thomas & fifty pounds to my Son Robert at the discretion of my Executors if they find his conduct deserving, & the remainder I allow to be equally divided among my other Legatees viz. Hugh, Sarah, Hannah and Mary. Finally I do constitute ordain and appoint my two Sons Hugh and Thomas joint executors of this my last Will & Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannull all and every other and former Wills, Testaments, Legacies Bequeathments and Executors by me in any wise before named willed or bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Day and Year above written.
