Allan for the sum of 70 Pounds Sterling. This was part of the Allan Land Grant of 1785.Also this is the area where the Town of Oxford NS is situated now. Lots #1-#2-#3

Ralph and Mary Thompson lived in Oxford for the first 14 years of there marrage,six of there children were born there.In 1815 he bought a farm in the Conn's Mill area between Oxford and Pugwash,and there 5 more children were born to them.In 1980 the farm is owned by another Ralph Thompson,a great-great Grandson of the first Ralph.After Ralph moved to Conn's Mills his brother Richard and Mark lived in Oxford,probably involved in the operation of there fathers sawmill.One of there decendents was involved in establishing the Oxford Woolen Mills which remained in business for many years.According to a 1948 copy of the Oxford Journal,Ralph Thompson sponsored a Baptist Church in Oxford,his son James gave the lot that this church was built.The building is now occupied by the Church of the Nazerene

Information in this Will was used to determine the children of Charles and Eleanor [Thompson] Chappell.

WILL

IN THE NAME OF GOD Amen I Charles Chappel Esq. of Tignish in the
Township of Amherst, County of Cumberland, Province of Nova Scotia,
Yeoman, being weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be
givin unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing
that it is appointed for all men once to die. Do make and ordain this
my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all.

I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty that gives it
and my body I
recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent christian burial at the
discretion of my
Execution nothing doubting but at the General resurrection I shall
receive the same again by the almighty Power of God and as touching such
worldly estate wherewith it has so based God to help me in this life.
I give devise and disperse of the same in the following manner and
form. First, I give and bequest to my Son Richard J. Chappell a lot of
land containing three hundred acres more or less known by the name of
the Horton farm bounded by lands owned by John W. Oxley on the northwest
and South East. And fronting on the Bay De Verte Shore with a reserve
of a mile seat with half an acre land with a sufficiency of a pond a two
rod road from the said mile seat to the leading road to Amherst this
mile seat is to be where I formerly cleared with the intention of
errecting a saw mill.

I bequeath to my son William Burton Chappell a tract of land containing
three hundred acres more or less bounded on the south west by lands in
proportion of James Chappell and fronting on the Amherst Town line also
a small parcel of marsh known by the name of the Smith brook marsh,
being along the said brook downwards to the Arbito and the present Road.
I bequeath to my son Joseph Chappell a lot or tract of land known by
land granted to William White Esq. of Amherst containing three hundred
acres bounded on the south east by Robert Beachman on the Northeast by
the rear of the front or shore lots to commerce at Beachman’s line
running a North westwardly direction on the rear of the shore or front
lots until it takes a sufficiency for three hundred acres by running to
the rear of the land granted to the said William White Esq. on a South
west direction. I also leave to the said Joseph Chappell the privilege
of building a sawmill on the mile seat reserved on the Horton farm with
the above described privileges for the terms of Nineteen years bearing
date from the errections of the mill. I also give and bequeath to my
son Joseph Chappell a parcel of Marsh known by the Smelt Brook point
called the lower brook bounded on the old Arbito or road and down to the
Tignish River.
I bequeath to my son Alfred Sidney Chappell a certain tract of land
being a part of my homestead likewise apart of a lot land formerly
granted to Martin Bent. Both parts containing two hundred and fifty
acres more or less understood by the following boundaries on the
Southwest by the lower Smelt Brook marsh on the North west by the town
line downwards to the mouth of the river brook or Arbeto and following
that stream to its source and from there a south east corner until it
meet lands formerly granted to Benjamin Goodwin. I also bequeath unto
the said A. Sidney Chappell half my homestead marsh being equally
divided quantity for quality.

I bequeath to my son Neatus Derbey Chappell the remaining part of my
homestead and also the remaining part of the land granted to Martin Bent
with all the houses barns stock and farming utensils with an exception
of the best room in my dwelling house. At my decease my son Neatus
Derby is to pay all my lawful debts. Also to maintain Elleanor Chappell
my beloved wife in a decent respectful manner otherwise he is to pay her
the sum of Twenty five pounds annually twenty pounds in ?produce? and
five in money.
I bequeath to Elleanor Chappell my beloved wife all my household
furniture with all my wearing apparel and books also the Dawson farm so
called containing two hundred Acres more or less bounded on the South
East by James & William McElman on the North West by land granted to
Martin Bent. For case William Dawson should pay or cause to be paid my
demands against the Dawson farm above mentioned within the term of five
years after my decease My beloved wife Elleanor Chappell or my Executor
is to give a quit claim and otherwise to remain her property. The
reserved room in my house is to be ??? for the use of my wife Elleanor
Chappell in case she
may require it.
I bequeath to my Daughter Dolly Tingley the sum of five shillings, to my
Daughter Cathy Wells the sum of five shilling, to my Daughter Carlile
Raworth the sum of five shillings, to my Daughter Malinda Brundage the
sum of five shilling, to my Daughter Eliza Goodwin the sum of five
shillings, to my Daughter Mary the sum of five shilling.

I give and bequeath to Joseph Tingley My Grandson, and also to Charles
Chappell Wells my Grandson, two hundred acres land being the remaining
part of the land granted to William White Esq.. My Son Joseph Chappell
is to have his three hundred first as above mentioned and the two
hundred acres then remaining to be equally divided between my grandsons
as above named.

I Give and Bequeath to my Grand Son Howard Raworth one hundred acres
land situated and being on the half way brook emptying into the Tignish
River and generally known by the mile lot and know by its several
boundaries, he is not to ?????? the dam until his twenty two years of
age. I give and bequeath to Charles Chappell Brundage my grand son, one
hundred acres land being and lying on the East Branch of the Tignish
River known by its boundaries there is a wide known sledge road from
this lot to the above mentioned tract land called the Mill lot.
I likewise constitute and ordain my son Neatus Derbey Chappell and my
Son Richard James Chappell to be Executors of this my last Will and
Testament, And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannull all and
every other former testament Wills Legacies Request and Executors by me
in any way before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming
this and no other to be my last will and Testament. In Witness whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd Day of May One Thousand
Eight Hundred and Thirty Six.

In the name of God Amen, I George Allen of the Parish of Botsford in the County of Westmorland and Province of New Brunswick, Yeoman, make this my last will and testament. I resign
my soul to its creator in all humble hope of its future happiness as in the disposal of a Being infinitely good. As to my body, my will is that it be decently buried in a Christian manner. I
do hereby make and appoint - Robert Trenholm, Charles Allan and Richard T. Allan, the survivors or survivor of them Executors to this my last will and testament. I give and bequeath to
my dear wife Letitia Allen all my real estate and personal property of every sort during her widowhood after my debts are paid out of the said personal property. She is to be sole owner and
manager of all while she continues my widow with this reserve that I give and bequeath to my two sons Samuel Allen and George Allen all my right and title to a lot of land at Cape Spear
containing 330 acres to be equally divided between them. Samuel ,is to have the one half next to or adjoining land now occupied by James Robiar and George to have the remaining one half
adjoining lands now occupied by Robert Simons. At my wife=s demise, I give and bequeath my homestead farm containing 350 acres of upland more or less to my three sons Ephraim
Allen, Abraham Allen and Edward Allen to be divided as follows. Edward is to have one third of the said 350 acres more or less on the rear to run across from one side line to the other. My
will is to have the remaining two thirds be divided as follows. Ephraim to have his share on the northwest side and Abraham to have the other share facing lands occupied by Richard
Dobson. The middle line to run as follows between both beginning at the mouth of the brook where it runs into the marsh and turning a straight course to a certain stake placed at the
southeast side of a spring from there running a parallel line with the side lines till it strikes Edward=s line and that Abraham is to have the privilege of a road through Ephraim=s share ___
the nearest place to the main road. I also bequeath unto the said Ephraim Allen, Abraham Allen and Edward Allen the home marsh adjoining the upland to be equally divided between them
quantity for quality only that Edward is to have two acres more than the one third and to be possessed by them in like manner with the upland namely at my wife=s decease. My will is that
provided my wife Letitia Allen should die before the youngest of my children or any of them arrives at age that the said Ephraim and Abraham Allen shall carefully provide for them and
bring them up on the place and give them education suitable to their condition and that they shall have a home on the place till they are of age. Also my will is that whatever stock goods or
household furniture should be in my wife=s hands at her decease I bequeath as follows to my son George I give a pair of oxen not less than three years old , to my two daughters Catherine
Trenholm and Eliza Trenholm I bequeath fifteen pounds each to be paid out of the said personal property, to my two other daughters Amelia Allen and Mary Ann Allen I bequeath twenty
pounds each in stock or farm produce or fifteen pounds and a cow and a bed and bedding to each of them to be paid in stock or farm produce provided there is personal property in my wife=s
hands at her decease, otherwise my aforesaid daughters is to have a proportionable share of the said personal property agreeable to this my will. I give and bequeath unto my four sons
Charles Allen, George Allen, Samuel Allen and William Allen that body of marsh situate on the west side of Peters Island to be divided as follows to my son Charles I give two acres on
the northwest side joining marsh now occupied by Matthew Allen, to my son George Allen I give five acres next to Charles, to my son Samuel I give three acres and to my son William I
give the remaining number of acres more or less with this reserve that the said body of marsh is to continue in my wife=s possession during her widowhood as before mentioned. Also my
will is that if the aforesaid William Allen should find it necessary to sell his share of the said marsh he shall not sell it to any but to one or more of my family. I also release and give to my
aforesaid son Charles Allen all my right, title and interest in and upon a bond-______ to me and my heirs a warranted deed of a lot of land containing 220 acres situated on the north side of
the Emigrant Road known by lot No. 5026 to be his and his heirs forever. I give unto my sons Richard T. Allen and Benjamin Allen ten shillings each to be paid out of my personal
property at the time aforesaid mentioned. It is also my will and pleasure that if any of my heirs should die leaving no issue his or their share of my property real or personal shall descend to
and be equally divided between the five youngest of my family. Being now desirous that my Dear wife Letitia Allen should be and continue as a head over my family after my decease my
will is that if she should think proper to marry again after my decease and contrary to this my will that my sons Ephraim and Edward Allen shall upon her marriage enter immediately into
the possession of their respective shares and also have in common all the benefit and profits arising from the aforesaid tract of marsh situate on the west side of Peters Island till each of the
heirs to whom it is willed comes of age for the purpose of maintaining and educating the younger part of the family. Also my will is that my son Samuel Allen shall pay for or erect one half
of a barn thirty feet by thirty two at Cape Spear namely a framed barn for my son George Allen.

This is my last will and testament signed and sealed with my seal this seventeenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty five.
