Notes for Eli Reeves:
Eli Reeves was born 8 April 1769 in Prince William County, Virginia. He was the son of Asa Reeves and Sarah Lambert.
Several sources claim that he served in the Revolutionary War. So far, I have not found any proof of this.
He moved with his parents to Mason County, Kentucky around 1789. They lived in that part of Mason County which became a part of Fleming County when it was formed in 1798.
On 28 January 1791 Eli married Sarah Ann "Sally" Redmon and together they raised 13 children.
Eli and Sally moved their growing family across the Ohio River to what was then Adams County, Ohio. Eli again found that his county of residence had changed without his having moved when Brown County, Ohio was formed in 1818.
There is a reference in an old Ohio history book to a spot on the Ohio River called 'Reeves Crossing.' Pperhaps the family had a ferry service of some kind in the early days.
When the Federal Government was trying to determine if they should open Ohio for settlement it is said that Eli was one of the enumeraters. He rode horseback around Clermont and Adams Counties from Cincinnati east and enumberated males over age 21. From this we know that he could read and write.
Eli was one of the founders of Liberty Chapel which was part of the Deciples of Christ Church.
According to his tombstone, Eli died 21 May 1825. As of 1963 his was the only readable headstone in a small unnamed cemetery in Bryd Township, Brown County, Ohio.
After his death, Sally moved to Indiana with some of their children. She died 21 February 1848.

Notes for Mr. Lang:

Source: The Pioneers of Morgan County, Memoirs of Noah J. Major, Edited by Logan Esarey, Sec of the Indiana Historical Survey, Indiana Univ., Indiana Historical Society Publications, Volume V, Number 5, Published by Edward J. Hecker, Printer, Indianapolis, 1915:

p. 265 "Down in the pocket of the settlement, beginning at the mouth of Sycamore, and coming up the river were Daniel Reeves, Kester Jones, Benjamin Stafford, Elijah Lang and sons, Dabney Gooch, Andrew Paul, Gabriel Paul, Jesse Gooch and John Robb. These all tilled their own soil, drank water out of their own "moss-covered buckets," and heard the rain patter on their own housetops, in the year of 1836."

p. 271 "Elijah Lang, who was probably the oldest of all the old settlers, owned and lived on eighty acres of land situated in the southeast corner of the Bradford and Campbell farm. His house stood on the bank of the river. Near the close of his life he was greatly afflicted in his feet and legs. His suffering at times was dreadful, the worms taking possession of his limbs before their time. Mr. Lang was a great backwoods novelist. His stories were not written, but delivered orally. Each succeeding edition was enlivened with some new incident, in which he appeared the hero. He died just before the great "washout." His children, or most of them, sold out their possessions and moved to Iowa, where they prospered reasonable well. They were members of church and much respected. Mr. Lang was also a Kentuckian."
