Descendants of Elizabeth Law?

Generation No. 1

      1. Elizabeth1 Law? was born Abt. 10 October 1820 in VA, USA, and died 27 April 1866 in White Co, IN, USA - bur Wolcott/Christian Apostic Cem. She married (2) John Boussum 5 October 1843 in Carroll Co, IN, USA. He was born Abt. 1818 in PA, USA, and died Unknown.

Notes for Elizabeth Law?:
The name of Elizabeth's first husband, if there was one, is not known. The family story is that her son, Asbury, was illegitimate. Therefore it is not known if Law was her married name or maiden name.
The daughter, Elizabeth, listed on the family group sheet with her and her second husband, John Boussum, may be John's daughter from a previous marriage.
Elizabeth is buried in Wolcott/Christian Apostic Cemetery, Princeton Twp, White Co, IN. The headstone gives her death date and age as 45 years, 6 months, 17 days. Her birth date has been calculated from this information.

Notes for John Boussum:
The Law family history would not be complete without mention of John Boussum. When I first began to research our family history my father told me that Asbury Law had served in the Civil War. My sister Bonita was making a trip to Washington DC and the National Archives so I asked her to see if she could find anything about this. She came home with photocopies of his military record. Those four pages prompted more questions than answers. The name of the serviceman on each page was Asbury Boussum and they were all stamped with the words 'Corrected name Asbury Law.' I started asking aunts and uncles questions but none of them had heard of the Boussum name.
On day the library coordinator for the Genealogical Society of Douglas County Oregon called me and told me that she had recently purchased a book of early Carroll County Indiana marriages for the library. I could hardly get to the library fast enough. The index listed an Elizabeth Law and when I looked up her marriage record - lo and behold - she had married a John Boussum in 1843. I next looked at the 1850 census for Carroll County and found the John and Elizabeth Boussum family and Asbury. So John Boussum was Asbury's step-father!
OK, that worked for me. But more surprises were waiting to be found. Imagine my surprise when I found that after Elizabeth died John Boussum married a young war widow by the name of Anna Waterbury. Anna was the mother of Violetta Waterbury and Violetta married Asbury Law!
The Boussum surname has been found spelled various ways including Baussum, Bausman and Boseman. John may have been married previous to his marriage to Elizabeth Law and the daughter Elizabeth age 7 listed on the 1850 census may have been his daughter by a former marriage.
There are still question to be answered about this family and hopefully I will find the answers some day.
