219. Joshua Howard⁵ Locke (John B.⁴, William³, George², John¹) was born 1834, and died 1890. He married Matilda C. Messer. She was born 1837, and died 1928.

The following information on Joshua Howard Locke, was researched by Dorothy Gardner:
Joshua Howard Locke is buried in the Green Hill Cemetery at Berryville, Virginia. His tombstone reads Howard and Matilda Locke, but due to the style and condition of the stone you can tell it was installed long after his death. He apparently went by his middle name because a lot of his childrens' obituaries say daughter of Howard Locke. His grand daughter who is now deceased, said that Joshua and Matilda were married in the middle of the Harpers Ferry bridge that washed away in the 1930's. Maryland claimes the Potomac River so that is why they were married in Maryland. Joshua and Matilda's marriage certificate is #285 at the Washington county court house in Hagerstown, Maryland. The certificate reads Joshua H. Locke and Matilda Mercer were married April 8, 1858. Also, on the 1850 census of Jefferson county, in the 28th district, enumerated on the 28th day of August 1850, it shows Joshua H. Locke, age 17, in the household of his parents, John and Ann Locke.
