Notes for Vernon Leroy Chandler:
Vern retired from the U.S. Air Force in April 1971 as a full Colonel and Base Commander of Travis AFB, California. He enlisted in the Oregon National Guard in October of 1938. Colonel Chandler was an active duty Air Force pilot from September 1940 until April 1971, when he retired. He flew 29 combat missions over Japan during World War 2 and also served in Korea and Vietnam. His numerous awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross (three times), the Air Medal (four times), the Presidential Unit Citation for the 9th Bombardment Group and the Legion of Merit. He was a member of 20th AirForce, 19th Bombardment Group, Dadaelions and Reserve Officers.
