Jim graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1971. He worked a couple of jobs after graduation, including work at the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit. He met Joyce at his cousin's wedding and they began dating. They eventually married on 11-15-1975. Joyce quit her job at United Parcel service when they got married and moved with Jim into an apartment in the Detroit area. After about 1 years, Jim quit his job at Chrysler and enrolled at Michigan State University. Joyce got another job at United Parcel Service and they moved to Lansing, Michigan. Within one year, Jim completed his Masters Degree and eventually got a job at the Michigan Department of Public Health. They had Jessica in 1982. Jessica graduated from St. Gerard elementary school in 1997 and attends Lansing Catholic Central High School.
