Notes for C
OSMO ANNUNZIATO CORTESI:
Birth records from Italy indicate that Cosmo was born in Stignano, Province of Reggio Calabria, March 24, 1887 at 1:05 A.M. on Via Campanella (according to the Italian Historical Society of America, since virtually all births took place at home, this probably tells the street (Campanella) that Cosmo and his family lived on). He was registered in the year 1878 (Number 27, Part 1, Series Unica). This date is consistent with the immigration papers.

Cosimo immigrated at the age of 24 from Naples, Italy on the vessel Purmonte that left Naples on April 1 and arrived in New York on April 9, 1902. He declared his intent to be a citizen of the US on 12-9-1919. On his letter of intention, he describes himself as a laborer being less then 5 feet tall, 152 pounds with black hair. He was living at 125 Romeya Street in Schenectady. In his petition for naturalization on 4-22-1922, Cosimo and his family had moved to 506 South Ave in Schenectady.

He can be found in the both 1910 Schenectady city directory and 1920 federal census at 135 Romeya Street. Cosimo received his naturalization on 9-29-1922. He worked for American Locomotive and retired in 1948-1949. He and Rose moved to and lived on Carrie Street until about 1954 when they moved to a home on Jackson Ave. They are both buried at St. John's Cemetery.

The following obit appeared in the January 11, 1962 Schenectady Union Star:

OSA PREIATO:
Records from Calabria indicate that Rosa was born in the Province of Reggio Calabria on May 14, 1885 at 10:05 P.M. on Via S. Rocco (Number 37, Parte 1, Series, UNICA) (according to the Italian Historical Society of America, since virtually all births took place at home, this probably tells the street (S. Rocco) that Rosa and her family lived on). This date is consistent with the immigration records (May 1885).

Rose Immigrated to US in about 1906 and married Cosimo later that year. However, there is a Rose Preiato living alone in at 32 Jefferson in Schenectady in 1914. Rose died April 14, 1960 in the home of her daughter, Rose (Mrs. Anthony Cuda) and was buried in St. John's, Schenectady, NY. The funeral was held at St. Anthony's. She had a half-brother by the name of Louis, who lived in Brooklyn, NY at the time of Rose's death. Louis was born 9-26-1887 and died in November 1962.
