5. NEAL3 LOCKE (GEORGE W2, JOHN1) was born 1787 in Lock Farm, Berkley County, Virginia, and died Abt. 1840 in Carter County, Kentucky. He married RACHEL MERCHANT August 07, 1809 in Berkley County, Martinsburg, W. Virginia4, daughter of ISAAC MERCHANT. She was born 1791 in Virginia, and died Aft. 1870 in Ohio.

Notes for NEAL LOCKE:
Neal and his brothers William and George Lock Jr. are all found to be living in Frederick County, Virginia in 1810. Neal and William on page 348 and George Jr. on page 336. Neal and his brother Thomas were given a tract of land in Monomania County State of Virginia as a settlement of the estate of their father, will dated 9-22-1823, Frederick County, Virginian. Neal and his family (with three young children) were then found in in 1830 living in Randolph County, VA. In addition, a Neal, William, Isaac (Neal's son) and John Lock were living in Preston County, WV in the 1840 census.

Neal and his family were living in Preston County, Virginia, according to the 1840 census. They had moved to Carter County, Kentucky by the time of the 1850 census. Rachel was living with Hiram, Nathan and Martha and William Ward in the 1850 Kentucky census for Carter County, District 2. Rachel was living alone with her grandson William (Neal's son) and his family in Carter County, Kentucky in the 1870 census.

Rachel and her children moved to Carter County, Kentucky after Neal's death. This was verified by the 1850 census for Carter County.

He was born April 09, 1775 in Berkley County, Virginia (now Jefferson County, WV), and died October 01, 1865 in Brown County, Ohio.
