| I have been doing research on my ancestors for years and probably will be for the years ahead. I would be glad to share information with kin and/or other researchers, just send me an e-mail and be sure to put ancestry in the subject line so it doesn't end up in the trash. My Dad's name of Guerin was changed to Garrin when his folks, August & Blanche, came to Montana with 6 of their 7 children, in the early 1900's, Fred, my Dad was the only child born in Montana, Grandma's maiden name was Lachapelle. Both of paternal Grandparents first and last name suffered greatly at the hands of the record-keepers(many names were that way). Which made the researching difficult & challenging. Both the Guerin's and Lachapelle's originated in France. The Guerins came directly to Oregon to settle, the Lachapelles were in Quebec before settling in Oregon. The only one not French was John McKay a Scotsman, the women were Natives or "women of the country" was what the Priests called them in their records. My Mom's maiden name was Lamoreux and her family came from Iowa, some in the late 1930's others in the early 1940's. Others have done the researching for the Lamoreuxs(Grandpa Chester, etc). Little is known, however, about Grandma's Nicholson side. I know his first name was Harry and I believe he was born in England. There are many, many Harry Nicholsons seems this was a very popular name in England around the time my Great Grandfather was born. I remember Grandma telling me about her "extended" family, which meant both step and half brothers and sisters. She further explained about marriages for practical purposes, ie; Her father died when she was young, so her mother went to work taking care of a family whose mother had passed away. Then these two people married and had more children. So there was "his kids", "her kids", and "their kids". There has been movies and TV shows made of similar situations. If we have relatives in common, please feel free to write to me, I love visiting with relatives. |
