Includes NotesNotes for Jeremy (Matthew) Lance:
On March 5, 2003 - I was going to a message board on genealogy.com and I meant to type in Starcher but typed Shamblin by accident. Well, I told myself, since I am already on the Shamblin board I will take a quick look to see if any of our family may be here, perhaps doing a family tree like myself. Well searching down the records I read this: Searching for birth family in West Virginia - Jeremy Stiles-(Matthew Lance) 1/16/02. I thought no one in our family has lost any kids.

I read the message that read:

Hello,
I am searching for my birth mother, father and sisters. I know that my mother's maiden name is Shamblin and she comes from a family with 13 children from West Virginia. I was given up for adoption 29 years ago in San Francisco California. I know that my parents were married and had two daughters at the time of my birth. My sister would be 31 or 32 and another that is 30 or 31 years of age now. My mother's married name is Lance and my given birth name is Matthew Lance. I am desperatly searching for any extended family also. I have no hard feelings and am just eager to be contact with someone from my biological family. If you think you may be my aunt, uncle cousin, ect please email me. Thank you for your time and help.

I'm not sure if this is the same Shamblins. But I have an aunt named Elizabeth Jane Shamblin, and I dont know of her giving up anyone for adoption. But you never know. There are 13 kids in their family. There was 14, but Julie died from her dress catching on fire from the fireplace and from the smoke. Elizabeth is called Libby, aunt Libby. Let me know if I can help some more.

Well, later that night I had forgotten about it. Then I received an email from Jeremy.

Carolyn,

Thanks for replying to my post on the Shamblin genology webpage. How old is your aunt Libby and does she have other children? My sisters would be around 31 & 32 or possibly 33. This is the first lead I have recieved in my quest to locate my birth family. Do you have any additional info on her? Is her married last name Lance? I am so hoping you have the answers I am looking for but know that there are many Shamblins out there. If you could answer the above questions I would be so happy. Hope to hear from you soon and thanks for your help.

Jeremy

I said what the heck, it's not too late to call mom and ask her what Aunt Libby's married name is. Well, my mom was in shock and so was I. My aunt Libby had given up a baby. I had no idea. And my mom almost cried. Shamblin women have the strongest mother instinct. No one that knows the Shamblins could ever imagine one of us giving our child up for adoption. But Libby did, and now her son had been looking for her. From that point on my mom talked with Jeremy. I'm not sure about the situation with him and Libby, but that's between them. He and I are cousins and perhaps will meet one day and maybe not. But for now we can keep in touch through email. I am happy for him that he has found his natural and biological family.
