| Researching LOGAN family of County Antrim, Ireland,who descendedfrom the Scotch Barons of Restilrig, whose descendents fled to Ireland when their estates were seized by King James II about 1650. In the fall of 1798, John Logan and his family, his sisters Ann and Nancy, and John and Andy McIlwain and their families, sailed from Belfast, Ireland to Charlestown, S.C. Upon arriving sent to Abbeville District, where two of the McIlwain brothers, William and James, had established their homes,on Longcane Creek in 1780. John married Deborah Steele of Belfast in 1775, all 8 children born in Co., Antrim being:John Jr. b 1778 m.Mary McIlwaine;Ann b. 1780 m. Steele, her cousin;Sarah b. 1784 m. John McIlwaine; Elizabeth b. 1786; Mary b. 1790 m Steele,her cousin; Samuel b. 1793 m Elizabeth Steele;Thomas H. b. 1795 m.Anna J. Smith;James L. b. 1798 m.Elizabeth Mann. Other families:Beach,Buchanan,McDonald,McIlwaine,McMillin, Ralstin,Myers. The LOGAN family found on my wife's maternal side, her ancestors' William LOGAN b. abt.1756,d.3-11-1806, m.Jane Buchanan b. 1756,d. 3-20-1831,married in 1776 in Pennsylvania. Issue:Mary b. 1782 m. Michael Sailors; William b 1794 d.1847 m. Elizabeth McCarty in 1814; Margaret b. 1782 m Bryson;Jane L. b 1782 m 1816 William Viney; James Buchanan b. 1782 d. 1850 m.1stLydia McCarty,issue: Benjamin McCarty and Jonathan McCarty, m. 2nd Sarah VanMeter; Samuel D. b.1784 d. 1859 m Susanna Duffy; Elizabeth b. 1788 d. 1851 m Enoch McCarty. |
