Notes for Elias P. Mayes: Goodwin and Phebe (Johnson) Mayes. Gopodwin Mayes, Sr., was the brother of Abraham Mayes, father of Elias P. Mayes.
Three brothers, Goodwin, Abraham, and David, sons of Henry and Phebey Mayes of Henry Co, VA, migrated to the Leipers Lick Creek area of northwest Maury Co, TN about 1805. Indications are that they left Henry Co, VA, went to NC for a while, then moved on to middle TN.
It turns out that Elizabeth P. Mayes, daughter of Abraham and Ellenor Mayes, married her cousin, Miles H. Mayes, who was the son of Goodwin and Phebe (Johnson) Mayes.
The deed which proves that Elias P. Mayes is the son of Abraham Mayes is as follows:

David Hamilton Deed for 115 acres Conveyed by Miles H. Mays & Wife Registered Augt 18th 1842 filed Augt 17th 1842 at 5 Ock 45 m P.M.
This Indenture made and entered into this 17th day of August in the year of Our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and forty two, Between Miles H. Mays and his wife Elizabeth P. Mays the daughter of Abraham Mays, Dec'd of Maury County and the State of Tennessee of the one part and David Hamilton of Dallis County and State of Alabama of the other part - Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred Dollars to us the said Miles H. Mays and wife Elizabeth P. Mays in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said Miles H. Mays & wife hath this day bargained sold and delivered and conveyed unto the said David Hamilton our entire undivided interest in and to the tract of land on which the said Abraham Mays resided formerly to his death and at the time of his decease said interest being the entire interest which we the said Miles H. and wife hold in and to said tract of land by virtue of heirship of said Elizabeth P., an also the undivided interest of Elias P. Mays, Ellenor Mays the widow of said Abraham Mays & Jesse O. Mays all of which I the said Miles H. Mays hold by Deed from the said Ellenor Mays Elias P. Mays and Jesse O. Mays said tract of Land lye on Leepers Lick Creek and is bounded north by William Oakley & Thomas Brooks, East by Robinson & Wrenn South by Harbison West by Thomas Spencer & Joshuia Richards Contains by estimation about one hundred fifteen acres more or less the tittle of & to which we the said Miles H. Mays & wife Elizabeth P. Mays will for ourselves our heirs Executors and assigns forever warrent and defend to the said David Hamilton his heirs administrators Executors and assigns forever against the claim or claims of all person or persons whatsoever given under our hands and seals this 17th day of August 1842

Mays the bargainor with whom I am personally acquianted and who acknowledges that he Executed the within Deed for the property therein contained And Elizabeth P. Mays (from this Court) having also personally appeared before me privately and apart from her husband the said Miles H. Mays acknowledged the Execution of said Deed to have been done by her freely Voluntarily and Understandingly from her husband and for the properties therein described. Witness my hand Wm. E. The William Oakley mentioned in the deed married Phebey Mays, daughter of Henry and Phebe Mayes of Henry Co, VA. They moved to Maury Co, TN with her brothers.
