Note:Info from another researcher says Eldridge was adopted by Gov. Thomas Metcalfe and educated to be a lawyer. I saw the notice of Apprenticeship Bond to Thomas Metcalfe, stonemason but have not seen adoption papers. However, the education received by Eldridge seems to indicate this could be the case as he became a Probate Judge.
