Descendants of John Box

      191. John Andrew8 Jones (Rebecca7 Box, Edward Allen6, Robert5, Robert4, John3, John2, John1)709,710,711,712 was born 1806 in Smithland, Livingston Co., KY713, and died January 29, 1850 in Benton, Saline Co., AR714,714. He married Mary Ann Martin715,716,717,718 October 26, 1826 in Hardeman Co., TN. She was born 1813 in AL, and died WFT Est. 1851-1904 in AR.

Notes for John Andrew Jones:
I have three different sources as place of birth, showing Laurens Co., SC, Hardeman Co., TN and Livingston Co., KY as his birth place. I have not verified which is correct at this time but I feel the place should be Livingston Co., KY.

From the Census and Tax Records for John A. Jones it would seem his family moved to Livingston Co., KY around 1800 and John A. Jones was born there. They stayed in this area from around 1800 to 1810 or 1811.

The family moved from Livingston Co., KY to Tuscaloosa, AL. Several of the family, Jolly Jones, Rhoda Jones McElroy and Rebecca Jones Dorrah and their families stayed in AL.

The rest of the family moved to Hardeman Co., TN and were there until at least 1836.

They then migrated to Pontotoc Co., MS and stayed there for the period between 1836-1848. Oral family history tells us the different families received land from the Government because of Rebecca being 1/2 Choctaw Indian. They stayed until the trouble when Willis killed an Indian and the family had to flee.

It seems there were at least two groups who arrived in AR at different times. From my records I have determined John A. Jones did not move to AR until around 1848. This was two years before he died.

He had returned to MS (on business or to visit) and was killed on his way back to AR. It is unknown how he was killed or the exact location of his grave. Another source states he was murdered but I have not verified that fact at this time. If anyone knows the story I would appreciate hearing from you.
I have not been able to locate his grave or find out the exact cause of death.

John A. Jones youngest child, Benjamin Franklin Jones, was only 10 months old when his father died.
