"...There were several early immigrants bearing this name (Snead) among whom was Charles Snead, who brought seven persons into the colony, and received a grant of 1933 acres of land, October 20, 1666.A Charles Snead received a grant of 833 acres between the Rivanna and James rivers, near the forks, in 1755.Samuel Snead arrived with his wife Alice, son William, and a servant in 1635, and had a grant of land from Charles I of 250 acres in James City county. The son, William, had four sons, Charles, Zachariah, William, and Robert, and one of these is supposed to be the William Snead who was living in Henrico in 1740.Archibald Snead, supposed to have been a son of the Charles Snead who had a grant in what is now Fluvanna, was living there in 1777, at which time he purchased 127 acres of land.He had many descendants named William...There can be little doubt that the Snead family of Albemarle and Nelson counties is an offshoot of that in Fluvanna. The Revolutionary Rolls of Virginia show that several of the name of the name of Snead were soldiers in that struggle, including Major Smith Snead, who served seven years. The name is very ancient in England, and signifies the handle of a scythe blade. It has many forms, such as Sned, Sneed, Sneyd, Sneyde, but the most usual form in modern times is Snead, as adopted by this family."

Dutch Reformed Church vs. Christian Church
" Whereas the congregation called the Low Dutch Reformed Church did heretofore to wit about the year 1802 purchase a piece of land on the dry fork of Salt river in Mercer County of David ADAMSfor the express purpose of building a house on said land for a meeting house for the public worship of God and the said congregation did at their expense erect a meeting house thereon for the purpose aforesaid called and known by the name of mud meeting house and for the want of a preacher of their own denomination mutually procured the Reverend Thomas KYLEas their preacher who continued to labor as such for several years and whereas a considerable proportion of said congregation was desirous to have public worship held in said mud meeting house by the Reverend Joel H. HAYDONto whom a number of the old congregation had strong objections which caused a great split among the members of the said church insomuch that a most unhappy contention arose one party wishing HAYDONto be permitted to preach in said house and the other refusing it until the party they then called Haydonites to obtain the use of said house for the purpose of admitting HAYDON to preach therein did by James WESTERFIELD one of the friends of that party break the lock of the door of said meeting house and so obtained admittance that violence produced a lawsuit which however has at length been happily discontinued by the mutual consent of both parties and the said parties further have happily and mutually agreed and now do agree that each of the said parties shall have and enjoy an equal moiety of the free use of said meeting house and land to wit, that part of said congregation still called the Low Dutch Reformed Church is to have the entire use of said house the first and third Sabbaths in each month and the society called Christians or Haydonites are to have the free and entire use of said meeting house the second and fourth Sabbaths in each month and when it shall so happen that any month shall have five Sabbaths the first thereof shall be for the use of the Low Dutch Reformed Church and the next for the Haydonites and so on forever and the parties further mutually agree that when any repairs or alterations shall be necessary to said house they shall be done by the mutual consent of both parties. In testimony whereof the parties viz Isaac VANARSDALL Peter HUFF and Peter VANNICE on the part of the Low Dutch Reformed Church and Peter BONTA Garret COZINE and Malachi RANDOLPH on the part of the Christian Church termed Haydonites have hereunto subscribed ther names and affixed their seals this 20th day of May 1822..."
