James Long was born Abt. 1760, and died 1842 in McDowall County, N.C.. He married Delilah ? on 1793.
Notes for James Long: The families of brothers Peter, James Jr and George Long were members of the Meadow Creek Baptish Church (across the border in Montgomery Co, now Stanly Co) before approx 1814.
Male church membership lists James Long George Long
Female church membership lists Catty Long (???) Elizabeth Long (she is George's wife) Lily Long - Delilah Long (she is James jr's wife) Polly Long (she is Peter's wife)
Also the minutes confirm the theory that Peter's wife was Mary (Polly). It also proves by naming James Jr's wife that the Longs of Burke originated from Cabarrus NC (but we already knew this in our gut)
July 1811 Meadow Creek Conf. Delila Long restored in full fellowship with the church. Received Joseph Howell Sr and his wife Margret by letter
Mch 1814 Washington Meeting House, Mch 1814. Polly Long, wife of Peter Long dismissed by letter. Joseph Barnes having been considered disorderly by the church for not attending church meeting the church has appointed Brother James Little to cite him to attend at our church meeting and he having neglected to attend and by records and from testimony of Brother Helim by stating that he the said Barnes is disorderly by drinking to an excess and by breaking the sabath by hunting as such the church withdrawed themselves from him the said Barnes being excluded from fellowship.

1800 CENSUS James Long 00110 - 00301 - 00 [note this profile should represent James Long Sr who died 1802, however, he was born about 1740] This makes me think this could be the father of the James Long here that's married to Delilah
