Updated September 5, 2000

I am researching the families of Nathan Jordan of Chowan County,North Carolina .Nathan served in the Revolutionary War from 25 October,1781 to October 25,1872 as a Pvt. in the Second N.C.Bttn. Capt.Clement Hall Company. He was discharged by Collr Archibald Lytle at Ashley Hill in South Carolina. Nathan is found in the census of 1784-1787 for Chowan County,North Carolina as head of family living alone. (From THe N.C.Genealogical Society Journal Volume XIII,no 4 November 1987 )The Five lost Tax Lists of Chowan County,North Carolina by Raymond A.Winslow "this list of taxables in Capt,Haughton's district was made by Thomas White,Esqr.(minutes of Chowan County Court,June Term 1784,North Carolina State Archives)The original pagination of the manuscript is uncertain,so the order followed here is that of the clerk's compiled list published by Robert Bland Smith Sr.,and Grayson Hanilton Harding as Chowan County Taxables 1784 (Edenton,NC:Smith and Harding,1965)Nathan is found with 1 free poll.
Nathan married Christian Minchen 8 January 1789 in Chowan County,North Carolina.his bondsman was Joseph Jordan and witness was Jos.Blount.[i am unable to find many Minchen's in N.C. but Minchew is found so i wonder if the writing or spelling of her name wasn't compromised somehow]
The list of taxables for 1797 in chowan County, north Carolina finds Nathan with 1 free poll and owning 75 acres.
