Bozeman

Peter Bozeman

Peter Bozeman was the son of Mordecai, as mentioned in the book "Sketches of Bozeman" published in 1885. Both had served in the American Revolution and about 1827 Peter removed to Montgomery Alabama.

They are listed in the South Carolina Archives, where Peter's land was being surveyed in 1826, likely selling out before he moved; and it shows where Mordecai's account was being audited for his pension. ( http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kc90853/Photos/MordecaiServedInTheMilitia.bmp) Mordecai was born about 1735 in Bladen North Carolina and Peter was born about 1758.

Peter was found on the Darlington South Carolina census only a few doors from Jesse, so if this was his son Jesse M Bozeman( http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kc90853/Photos/PeterBozemanCaptured1779.bmp) ( wonder if that could be Jesse Mordecai? or Jesse Meade? ) then Jesse and Lucy had already married before they all moved to Alabama.

Peter and Sarah and their children lived in Hope Hull, Montgomery, Alabama near Abner McGeHee, Sterling Campbell, Thompson, Watkins, Flinn, and many others who migrated from South Carolina.

Peter was found on the 1790 census of South Carolina and on the 1830 census of Alabama.

He had received pay for his service in the war and once in Alabama about 1828 he wrote a letter about it. Possibly he expected the land grant in Alabama for his service in the War but there is no land record for Peter in Alabama; just where his son Jesse M Bozeman bought land twice in 1827 in lots of 80 acres. Peter's son Peter bought land in 1834. Meady in 1834. Interesting also finding a John Bozeman who bought land in Mississippi 1823.

His sons were Jesse, William, Peter, Meady and daughter Lucy married Sterling Campbell. Peter died in Lousiana of cholera. Meady went to Mississippi. Jesse and William Henry remained on the farm in Montgomery. Jesse was the administrator of Peter's estate and then again when William died. Jesse's headstone shows he was born in 1793 and is the only one found in Hope Hull at what some call Stokes Carter Cemetery after it had new ownership but it is mostly Bozeman buried there on McLean Road. William Henry Bozeman had the greatest lineage in Alabama from my own research, unless I do find more on Jesse's line. William Henry's lineage has several Alabama researchers working his family tree very well with a lot of documentation found in the Alabama Archives and the Probate Office.

William married Martha H, which could be Hill, and had sons named Peter Edward, John Thomas, Meady G, and a daughter named Martha M who married Norman Campbell.

Peter Edward was born in 1834 and married Nancy Jane Bozeman and named a son John Thomas and one Peter James and they were found on 1880 census living in Ramer.

William's son John Thomas married Nancy Kizar Hill who named a son William Thomas Bozeman. William Thomas married Rebecca Scott and had Charles Eugene Bozeman.

Another son of William Henry, Meedy married a widow Rebecca Brewer and adopted her children but they also had a son named John Thomas.

Sons of William served in the Civil War.

Peter and Nancy's son John Thomas Bozeman born 1834 married Alice Lorena Stephens and named a daughter Lorena, who married Charles Allen McClain in 1908 Ramer.

Peter's son Peter James married Dora Dillard in Ramer and their granddaughter is named Dora, a beautiful lady with so much history to share. She said the Bozemans had a farm next to the Dillards and next to the Hills as we drove down an old dirt road behind Hills Chapel seeking the old family cemetery, where she said a lof of our folks were buried but most were so covered in debris that we could not find but a few.

Meedy and Rebecca's son John Thomas Bozeman born 1866 married Sarah Edwards and they owned a country store in Hope Hull called McGeHee Switch and it was removed when the interstate was planned to come through. John named a son Jesse Graves Bozeman and one of John's pall bearers was Bibb Graves...Another son of John and Sarah was D Leon Bozeman.

----------------------------
Mordecai may have been the brother of Samuel who remained in Bladen North Carolina.  Perhaps Ralph Bozeman was the son of Samuel.  Ralph served in the War and received land grants but eventually made his way through Georgia and then settled in Florida.  The name Ralph was used with some of the Alabama descendants.
Name: Ralph Bozeman in 1830 census
County: Houston
State:

Georgia

Name: Ralph Bozeman on the 1850 census
Age: 91
Estimated birth year: abt 1759
Birth Place: North Carolina
Gender: Male
Home in 1850
(City,County,State):
District 2, Marion, Florida

When studying the claims of the American Revolution there is a possibility that Mordecai had a brother named Peter.  There is a possibility they were sons of Mary White and Samuel Boseman of Bladen North Carolina.  Some family trees indicate that Mary had a brother named Mordicai. These were old settlers in the Carolinas about 1700 while it was still Indian Territory.( http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~kc90853/1PeterBozeman.htm)
