The Lorick family in South Carolina

The Lorick name in South Carolina started out being spelled Lorig, Lorigh, Lorch, Looch, Lerch, Lorier, or Lorf on old land grants and plats. This may have been a miss-interpretation by record keepers or miss-spelled by the German speaking Loricks that didn't know any better. These spelling is believed to be where Lorick was derived. A map of Germany reveals a town named LORCH, which is across the river from Dusseldorf. In the German language the "H" is pronounced as a "K." If English speaking people try to pronounce this word it sounds like a "K" because we don't have these kinds of "H's" in the English language.
