ALFRED HEINRICH GEORGE SCHULTE

A lifelong Hondo and Quihi resident, Alfred Heinrich George Schulte, 83, passed away at his home in Quihi on September 13, 1979.

Mr. Schulte was born in Medina County on February 13, 1896 to Heinrich and Wilhelmina Reitzer Schulte, both of whom precede him in death.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi, where he was baptized in 1896 by Rev. C. Stedler. He was confirmed in 1910 by Rev. C. P. Hasskorl at the Quihi Lutheran Church. In 1927, he was married to Louisa Sophie Hartman in the Quihi Lutheran Church.

Mr. Schulte was retired from Kelly Field in San Antonio. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Quihi Gun Club.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by one brother, Frank Schulte.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louisa Schulte of Quihi; five sons, Alfred Schulte, Jr. of Bandera, Charles John Schulte of Quihi, Leory Schulte of Oxnard, California, Thomas Joe Schulte of Dilley, and David Ray Schulte of Quihi; four daughters, Mrs. Marion (Myrtle) Schneider of Castroville, Mrs. Louis (Mary Louise) Mazurek of Hondo, Mrs. Stanley (Ruth) Franklin of Pearsall, and Mrs. Raymond (Carolyn) Adamietz of Bandera; 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He is also survived by four brothers, Henry Schulte, Edwin Schulte and Robert Schulte, all of Hondo, and Arthur Schulte of Quihi; and three sisters, Mrs. Hulda Wiemers of Temple, Texas and Mrs. Otto (Emma) Wiemers and Mrs. Bertha Hartman, both of Hondo.

Funeral services were held September 15 at 10:00 A.M. from the Guinn-Horger Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ken Anderson officiating.

Pall bearers were Royce Hartman, Richard Schulte, Marion Schneider, Louis Mazurek, Stanley Franklin and Raymond Adamietz.

Arrangements were made by Guinn-Horger Funeral Home of Hondo.

LOUISA S. "LIZZIE" SCHULTE

Louisa S. "Lizzie" Schulte, age 96, passed away Nov. 9, 2000 in Castroville. She was born in Quihi, Jan. 2, 1904, to John and Annie Hartman.

She married Alfred H. Schulte on Dec. 14, 1927, and they shared 52 years of marriage. She was a homemaker, but she also worked as a cook and pie baker at Windrow's Fountain in Hondo and at Sammy's Restaurant in Castroville for a number of years. She always had a vegetable garden and flowers were her pride and joy. Her hobbies included watching TV, especially certain soap operas and John Wayne movies, crocheting and playing bingo.

She had many names, Mama, Granny, Great Granny, Mrs. Schulte, Lena, Lizzie, Sophie, but also friend. She said that more than anything, she loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren without the problems of day-to-day parenting. She remembered the birthdays, anniversaries and favorite foods of every member of their extended family. She could always tempt her family and friends to visit by telling them she was baking cinnamon rolls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; sons, Leroy and David; grandson, Michael Schulte; great-granddaughter, Megan Tobin; sisters, Bessie Dailey, Annie and Lena Hartman; brother George "Buddy" Hartman.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Myrtle and Marion Schneider of Castroville, Mary and Louis Mazurek of Hondo, Ruthy and Stanley Franklin of Pearsall, and Carolyn and Raymond Adamietz of Bandera; sons and daughter-in-law, Alfred Jr. and Lois Schulte of Kerrville, Charles and Annette Schulte of Bandera and Thomas and Carol Schulte of Dilley; daughters-in-law, Toni Schulte of California and Linda Schulte of Hondo; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Fritz A. Hartman on Quihi.

Pallbearers were her nephews, Robert, William "Buddy" and Richard Schulte and Bruce, Bryan and Royce Hartman.

Honorary pallbearer was a dear friend, Clayborne Boehle.

Funeral service was a Bethlehem Lutheran Church Saturday, November 11, with Rev. Stephen Schur officiating. Interment was in Quihi Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Guinn-Horger Funeral Home, Hondo.

Funeral service was held at 10 A.M., Thursday, July 25, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel with Father Wallis Stiles officiating.

Interment followed in Quihi Cemetery.

Leroy H. Schulte, age 60, of Port Hueneme, California, passed away at his home on January 1, 1998, after a lengthy illness.

Born on July 7, 1937, in Hondo, Medina County, Texas, he had lived in Ventura County for the past 18 years.

He served in the Air Force Reserve from 1954 to 1956, before joining the Navy where he served from 1956 to 1960. He was in the Navy Reserve from 1960 to 1962 when he reenlisted in the Navy and served until 1977. During his Navy career, he earned Good Conduct Awards, National Defense Award, Armed Force Expeditionary Medal and served in the Vietnam Campaign earning three service awards. He proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Horn, the U.S.S. Hornet, the U.S.S. Halsey and the U.S.S. Norton Sound as a radar specialist and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer E7.

He earned an Associate Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree from LaVerne University in California while working as an electronics technician/technical writer at Naval Surface Warfare Center in Port Hueneme. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, American Bowling Congress and the South California Public Links Golf Association. His hobbies were bowling and golf.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Toni, and sons; Edward and wife Pam of Las Vegas, Nevada, John of Port Hueneme and David of Oxnard, mother, Louise Schulte of Quihi, sisters; Myrtle Schneider, Mary Mazurek, Ruth Franklin and Carolyn Adamietz and brothers; Alfred Jr., Charles and Thomas and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Sr and his brother David.

Visitation was held from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. on Tuesday, January 6, at Conrad-Carroll Mortuary, with graveside services at 2:30 P.M. at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura. Services were led by Vincent and Mel Hall, Edward and John Schulte and the Eulogy was given by Anthony Proznick, and a special tribute was given by members of the Fleet Reserve Association. A U.S. Navy Honor Guard provided the military honors.

Traveling to California for the services were Myrtle Schneider, Carolyn Adamietz and Diane Schneider.

Carole Rose Rihn Schulte of Dilley passed away July 12, 2004, at the age of 63 years. Carole was born Dec. 22, 1940 in Castroville. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Interment was in Quihi Cemetery.

Carole Rose Schulte of Dilley, Texas, passed away July 12, 2004, at the age of 63 years, 6 months, 20 days. Carole was born on December 22, 1940, to Ernest Victor & Lillian Ann (Halbardier) Rihn in Castroville, Texas.

She was preceded by her parents.

DAVID RAY SCHULTE

David Ray Schulte of Hondo passed away January 21, 1994 in San Antonio, at 7 years of age. He was born in Hondo, April 18, 1946.

"He was a gifted machinist, almost a genius," said his employer, Sonny Cammack.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Pope Schulte of Hondo; sons, Chris and Scott Schulte, both of Hondo; mother, Louisa "Lizzie" Schulte of Quihi brothers, Alfred Jr. of Durango, CO, Charles "Sonny" of Bandera, Leroy of Oxnard, CA and Thomas Schulte of Dilley; sisters, Myrtle Schneider of Castroville, Mary Louise "Mitzie" Mazurek of Hondo; Ruth Franklin of Pearsall and Carolyn Adamietz of Bandera.

He is preceded in death by his father, Alfred Schulte Sr.

Pallbearers were Sonny Cammack, George Ernst, Mitch Pope, Clayborne Boehle, Milton Theis and Royce Hartman.
