Notes for Charles Walkoviak:
Most of Charles and Magdalene's descendants live in South Bend, Indiana. Unable to make a living out of meager cotton crops, they were lured to northern Indiana by the stories of many job opportunities at Studebaker Car Manufacturer, Singer Sewing Machine, and Oliver Chilled Plow Works.
They arrived in South Bend, Indiana around 1920. To each of them the transition was very difficult. The severe winters brought misery in suffering from continuous colds. Working 12 to 16 hours a day on the monotonous assembly lines at a low pay and poor working conditions was difficult to adjust to.
According to 1900 Grimes County, Texas Tax Rolls, Charles had 2 horses, 2 cattle, 5 hogs & 1 carriage with a total value of $300. He also had 42 acres of land valued at $168.

  Notes for Bernice Sylvia Walkoviak:
According to the Book, History of Grimes County, 1982, the following was written by Bernice Walkoviak Walker:
"The Walkoviak Family"
The Walkoviak family emigrated from Prussia to the county of Grimes in the state of Texas via Galveston in October of 1875. Michael Walkoviak and his wife, Rosalie Novacka Walkoviak, came to this country with two children, Charlie and George. After their arrival there were six more children born in the county of Grimes. Their names as follows: Frances, Joseph, Victoria, Johanna (Annie), Thomas, & Michael.
Charlie married Magdalene Knach and they had 12 children as follows: John, Stash, Mike, Tom, Steve, Lee, Rose, Mary, Martha, Stella, Frances & Josephine.
George married Mary Bentkoski and they had seven children as follows: Louis, Julia, Martha, Stash, Grace, John & Archie.
Frances married John Sumeracki and they had 5 children as follows: Grace, Josephine, Joe, Helen & Martha.
Joseph married Mary Matelski and they had 14 children as follows: Louis, Bessie, Rose, Stash, Frances, Sallie, Frank, Magdalene, Verna, Victoria, Bernice,
Martha, Harold, & David.
Victoria married Adam Loukanis and they had 5 children as follows: Stash, Louis, Tony, Lee & Martha.
Johanna (Annie) married John Sicinski and they had 7 children as follows: Ruby, Antone, Clara, Christine, Julius, Max & Gertrude.
Thomas married Catherine Sicinski and they had 12 children as follows: Leon, John, Bill, Pete, Robert, Arch, Thomas, Cecilia, Lucy, Anne, Hattie & Alice.
Michael married Opal LaLonde and they had 1 child, Veronica.
Michael, Rosalie, all their children and their spouses are now deceased. All but Frances and their son, Michael, are buried in the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Anderson. Frances and her family moved to Denver, Colorado for a short time and then to Los Angeles, California where the children were reared. Frances died and was buried in California where all children, grandchildren and great grandchildren still live. Michael, the son, lived in Detroit, Michigan with his family until he retired and then they all finally moved to Largo, Florida, where Michael and Opal died and were buried. Veronica and all her children and grandchildren still live in Florida.
Needless to say, there are numerous children in the third, fourth & fifth generations. A family tree is in the making and should be finished in about a year. To give some idea of the size of the family, Joseph & Mary Walkoviak had 53 grandchildren at the time of their deaths, now add 140 great grandchildren and 49 great, great grandchildren. By the time the family tree goes to print the number is bound to increase.
There are members of this family living in many different states all over the United States and some abroad (Europe), unlike the early settlers. At one time in this family Polish Catholics married only Polish Catholics, however, this is no longer the case.
It is regrettable that the Family tree is not finished because much more information would be available about this great family.
