August 22, 1935 Irvin Gilbert Dies in Muncie Spinal Meningitis Fatal to Well Known Man Yesterday Irvin Gilbert aged 46 of northwest of Dunkirk died yesterday afternoon (the 22nd) at 2 o'clock at the Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, of spinal meningitis. He had been in failing health from heart trouble and arthritis for several months but his condition became critical and he was removed to the hospital Saturday. The deceased was a son of Al and Lena Bantz Gilbert and was born north of Dunkirk in Blackford County. Practically his entire life had been spent in his home community. He was engaged in farming and was also caretaker of the IOOF Cemetery north of Dunkirk. His first marriage was to Edna Lowry who preceded him in death. Fifteen years ago he was united in marriage to Ferol Wilson, who survives. He is also survived by 3 children: Mrs. Beatrice Sills, Hartford City, Mrs. Helen Rohlfing of Dunkirk and one son Floyd Gilbert, whose address is unknown, 2 grandchildren survive. He is also survived by one brother Joe Gilbert of Flint, Michigan, and the following sisters: Sara Ford, Ridgeville; Mrs. Ruby Shafer of California; Mrs. Mabel McEwen, Mrs. Goldia Phillips and Ella Gilbert all of Toledo, Ohio; Mrs Bess Gisler, Mrs Mary Main; Mrs. Alma Palmer and Dorothy Gilbert all of Numcie. One brother died in infancy. The father also survives living in Muncie.
Gilbert Services Will be Thursday Funeral services for Irvin Gilbert, who died Monday afternoon at the Ball Memorial hospital in Numcie of Spinal Meningitis will be conducted Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Sam R. Martin Funeral Home in Dunkirk, in charge of Rev. J.H. Nall, pastor of the United Bretheran Church.
