Burkes Peerage "John Alexander original settler of Co Donegal, Ireland b. ca 1590 believed to have been descended from The House of MacAlexander in Tarbert Kintyre, Scotland. he settled in Eredy near Raphoe, Ireland. They had at least four sons, Robert Andrew, Archibald and Willaim and several more unknown. Robert was registered in Erigal Parish Co Londonderryh, Ireland 1649 awarded land in Drumquin co Tyrone whre he died. All his descendants remain in Ireland which at least one was Joseph. Andrew was living at Gravachy Co Londonderry Ireland and also registered at Eriogal parish 1663 Sir Thomas Phillips, a close friend gave him land grant at Ballyclose in Drumachose Parish near Londonderry. he had three son, John, Thomas and another. All remained in Ireland.

MacAlister of The Clan MacAlister "Probable Sons of John of Eredy Robert(1), Archibald(2) , John(3), WILLIAM(4), AND ANDREW DD(5), are named as sons of John of Eredy. In The 1630 Muster Rolls of Donegal, Raphoe Parish are found: Robert, and two Arch's as well as a Ranald MacAlexander on lands of their own, and two John's still on James Cunningham's land. We assume one John is The son of The other. The lines of Archibald and John (Junior) have been traced. Andrew DD's line is known as The Alexanders of Antrim. Rev. James Alexander who died 1704 leaving only to wife Mariam Shaw. She left only to a niece) is said to have been The son of John Junior, son of John(3). Archibald(2) an elder in Taghboyne, married Elizabeth MacKay. Their son William fathered Archibald who went to America in 1736 and married Margaret Parkes and 2nd Marg. McClure in 1757. Son William(4) is thought to be father of seven sons.

According to data received 7 Jun 2000,from an Alexander Family researcher, Andrew Faircloth, an Archibald Alexander was b. 1610/14, Scotland; d. 31 March 1689, Ballieghan, County Donegal, Ireland; bur. at Balleighan; m. Elizabeth MACKAY/McKAY, b. 1617-37 & d. 30 Jan 1714/15, Ballieghan. This Archibald settled near his father's Home at Balleighan. He is found in The registers of Taghboyne Parrish in The Laggan Presbytery in 1661, where he was an elder from 1672 to 1681. He and Elizabeth had at least four sons: Joseph, John, Archibald and James. Faircloth states that records disclose they all remained in Ireland.
