Notes for JOHN LOWE: John retired from the US Army after serving his country for 30 years. After retiring he owned and operated Lowe's Bookkeeping Service in Hemet, California until his death. John enlisted in the Army in 1929, right out of high school. He spent two tours in Panama helping with phone line at the Panama Canal from about 1931 to 1935. On one of his tours he was stationed at Camp Bowie at Brownwood, Texas. At this time he was in the 36th Division. While stationed at Camp Bowie he met and married Nyo Jarnette Lefner. Their first child, Stephen Jack, was born at the Old Brownwood Hospital. At his next assigned station Ft. Mammoth, Ocean Port, New Jersey where their second child, Robert Franklin, was born. John was stationed at Ft. Mamouth from about1946 to 1950 or 51. He was next stationed in France for one year and then to St. Luis Obisbo, California. His last station was Ft. McArthur in San Pedro, California. *********************************** Notes from Bob and Carolyn Lowe We remember Grandpa John telling stories to our son, Robert, who would set and just listen to Grandpa John either read a story or tell something that had happened to him. When John became weak with his cancer he made a pull cart for Robert. Robert would sit and Grandpa John would pull him around the yard all the time talking to him. John passed away when Robert was 6 years old and 5 months before our first daughter, Nancy, was born. From Grandpa John I feel that Robert learned to spin tales and he does this very well. *********************************** There is some records that show John had a middle name - Frank-. We are not sure at this time. |
