Notes for STEPHEN GRANVILLE LEFNER: From Ancestors and Descendants of Herschel R. Weedon and his wife Pattie Lee Cross as compiled by Mrs. Herschel R. Weedon in 1981: Stephen was an officer in the first World War. After the War he retained his commission in the reserves and went to work for the rail road. He was called back to active duty in the army at the beginning of the Second World War. He saw service in Germany, Holland and France where he received the Purple Heart and other decorations and obtained the rank of Colonel. |

Notes for MARY ELIZABETH WEEDON: From Ancestors and Descendants of Herschel R. Weedon and his wife Pattie Lee Cross as compiled by Mrs. Herschel R. Weedon in 1981: Betty was able to join Stephen at the end of World War II in Japan and Germany. They came home to California where Stephen died. Betty continued to live in Long Beach until her mother, Susan Ellen Lovell, at the age of of 93 fell and broke her hip. Betty sold her home in Long Beach and came to Brownwood, Texas in order to help care for her. After the death of Susan, Betty returned to Hemet, California where her daughter Nyo lived. ******************************* Notes by Carolyn Markham Lowe, February 2000: Grandma Lefner was a small woman not quite 5' tall and around 95 lbs. She was active up until the day of her death in 1977. I remember that she had to drive the little ladies to Church and Bible Study, and she was the oldest one!! Grandma Lefner took great pride in her appearance and her home. Our son Robert was always going to Great Grandma's as she usually had a treat for him and truly loved him. Robert was the one that found her laying on the floor the day she died. He came running to us saying that Grandma had fallen and couldn't get up. We went to her and made her comfortable until the ambulance arrived. She was wanting to see Robert and the ambulance people said it would be okay. Grandma reached up and touched his face and smiled, she passed away in the emergency room of Hemet Valley Hospital in Hemet, California. This tiny lady loved her family very much and we all miss her. ****************************************** |
