| Our Martin Family descends from John and Isabella Scott Martin who lived in Logan County, KY prior to their relocation in Illinois. There were a number of marriages with the Neely Family, beginning with Charles and Jane Martin Neely in 1797. By 1820, our Martins were among the first pioneers in Illinois, settling in Lawrence, Coles, Shelby, and Moultrie Counties. A number of the Martin men served in the Civil War. Some of our Martins remained in Illinois where their descendants continue to reside. Others traveled to Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas where they homesteaded land. By 1872, my great-grandparents, Miles and Rhoda Martin were living in Fillmore County, Nebraska where they remained until 1892. Subsequently, they moved west settling first in Frontier County and later in Cherry County Nebraska. Several of our family homesteaders are buried in Farnam, Nebraska including my grandparents, James Otto and Lulu Rector Martin as well as Miles and Rhoda Martin. The father of Miles, James Martin is also buried at Farnam. |
