| I am researching the Durling/Dorland Family which lived in the South Bound Brook/Montgomery Twp.,Somerset Co., NJ area in the late 1800's. My grandmother was Anna Corle Durling, a descendent of Lambert Janse Dorlandt who came to Brooklyn from Holland in 1663 and eventually moved to Harlingen, Somerset County, NJ. She was the daughter of William Henry Durling and Phebe Cray (or spelled Craig depending on reference) and the granddaughter of Garret A. Durland and Gertrude (Gitty)Ann Edwards. She married Harry James Wells in February 1896. Harry was born in the Philadelphia/Chester Co., Pa area, in January 1868. He was the son of James Wells and Lusetta Hipple of PA and moved to the South Bound Brook, NJ area about 1891. He was originally a railroader and later had a moving and carting service. They had 9 known children -- Walter Wells, Gertrude Ann Wells (Clewley), Charles Wells, Henry Maron Wells (died at 10 months), Mary Eveline Wells (Sofield), John Van Harlan Wells, James Harry Wells (my father), and 2 stillborn children. Anna died in childbirth in 1914 and Harry died of pneumonia in 1916. They lived in South Bound Brook, NJ and William and Phebe Durling, William's brother Abraham G. Durling, Harry and Anna Wells, and Gertrude Ann Wells Clewley and Hazel Clewley (Gertrude's infant daughter), and Henry Maron Wells (infant son) are buried in the Bound Brook Cemetery in the Durling Family plot. I would like to contact any descendents of Lambert Janse Dorlandt thru his line that remained in the Harlingen and Montgomery, Somerset County, NJ area. These descendents are Gerret Dorland (1707-1774) m. Hilitie Van Arsdalen, son Gerret Dorland Jr. (1742-?) m. Anna Ammerman, son Abraham Dorland (1780-1846) m. Susanna Post, son Gerret A. Durland (1803-1874) m. Gertrude (Gitty) Ann Edwards, children Nathanial McPherson Durling, Catherine Durling who married William P.Duffield, Mary Hannah Durling who married John V. Quick, Abraham G. Durling, Helena D. Durling who married William M. Hall, William H. Durling who married Phebe Ann Cray, Susan Ann Durling who married Luther C. Smock, John E. Durling who married Mary Conors, Margaret Elizabeth Durling who married Enoch Carkhuff, and Calvin Corle Durling who married Anna Southard. These people all lived in the Harlingen-Montgomery, Somerset County area and most up to the last ones listed are buried in the Harlingen Church Cemetery on 206 South in Montgomery, NJ. I am also researching the James Wells/Lucetta Hipple connection in the Philadelphia/Chester Co., PA area. Any information will be greatly appreciated and I will share any of my information.
