| 7 | i. | Jossel5 SCHWARZ. He married Berta Weissman. |
|
Notes for Jossel SCHWARZ: Got name from tree drawn by Otto Schwarz. He says Jossel was in Sulzbach. This was confirmed (2001) by Meir Schwarz of Israel. It explains why Jossel and his descendants are not in Renate Hopfinger's book. |

Notes for Mendel Isaak SCHWARZ: Mendel's proof of identity was registered in Floss on December 14, 1796. He was known as Mendel Isaak (Mendel, son of Isaak) until 1814, at which time he took the last name of Schwarz and he signed his name in German. Some of the Jewish residents of Floss signed their names in Hebrew, but most signed in German. At the time of this name change, he was 46 years old and lived/owned 1/2 a house, # 32a, with his family of 1 wife, 5 sons and 4 daughters. He shared the house with Jonas David who took the last name Konigshofer, and who was married but had no children at the time. Extrapolated from chart, Hopfinger, p. 336 According to Otto Schwarz, M.D., "The family home of Mendel Schwarz in Floss was called The Castle". There is a family picture of the Schwarz homestead surrounded by portraits of his 12 children, which many family members have. The house looks like a cross between Mt. Vernon and Tara. It did still exist in 1938. A photograph of the building is in the Archives of the Historical Society of Jerusalem. The following was found in the section of Renate Hopfinger's book in the section on Jewish properties in Floss, p. 363: #43: Schlossjuden "Jonas Daniel Konigshofer and Mendl Isaak Schwarz acquired (April 29, 1807) for 5225 guilders the former apartment/home? (some kind of landholding from the government) of the master brick-layer Paul Bauer of Parkstein. They had bought the estate at a state-auction. "It was quite massively built, with a brick-enclosed yard, had a wooden Schupfe and a rock-cellar. There was also an additional house with stable under a roof and a vegetable garden in the yard. "1814, the two owners and Low Aron Honigsberger wanted to erect a leather-factory in the complex which failed because of the objection of the Flosser Rotgerber (some kind of tanner). [It would seem that by late 1814, Mendel Schwarz was out of the picture.] Otto Schwarz and Sarah Kussy say he was the rabbi of the first congregation in Floss. He may have led the congregation, but I have no proof that he was a rabbi. Meir Schwarz says that he died in 1830. |

Notes for Bella Moses (Adler): Renate Hopfinger gives her name as Bella Moses Schwarz . This probably means that her father's name was Moses. Adler is the name in the writings of Sarah Kussy. Renate Hopfinger also gives the date of her death as November 21, 1828. The 1832 date comes from the writings of Sarah Kussy. |
