Hello and welcome to the Wilson Luffman Family Home Page. Wilson Luffman married Levicey Alice Carter in 1824 and they settled in to raise a family in Wilkes County, North Carolina.
Ninety-nine percent of the information you will see (eventually) on this homepage was compiled by my 2nd cousin Willie Clarence Luffman who lives in Dobson, NC. Willie began gathering data on our family in 1955 and I and many others will forever be indebted to him for his efforts, past and future.

Wilson Luffman's past is a matter of speculation at this point with more than one theory and some possibility that he may have been adopted by a Luffman.

The Luffman surname first appears in the Colonies in the mid 1600's in Maryland when a William Luffman immigrated from Bristol, England. William apparently had 2 of his sons sent from Bristol in the next few years. There is a thus far scant paper trail which leads down thru Virginia and into North Carolina. The earliest record I have found in North Carolina is a 1715 Land Grant to a William Luffman in Currituck County bounded by Moyock Creek and the Beaver Dam Swamp. There are several Luffman will's from Currituck County and neighboring Pasquotank County ranging from 1728 thru 1825. One of these will's is where I derive MY theory on Wilson Luffman's past.

MY THEORY is that Wilson Luffman's father was William Luffman, Jr., who died in Pasquotank County in 1799. William's will names his wife as Ann Sexton Wilson and 2 sons, John and Miles Luffman, and an unborn child. The following are facts which are known to be:

-Williams wife Ann had the maiden name of WILSON.
-John and Miles lived for some time in Guilford County, NC.
-John was next found to be in Surry County NC in 1818.
-Miles is also in the area (Ashe or Wilkes) by 1830 (census).
-Wilson Luffman marries Levicey Alice Carter in Surry County in 1824.
-Wilson and Levicey's first born child is a male whom they name WILLIAM LUFFMAN.

This evidence may be somewhat circumstantial but it does appear to be, for now, the best guess.I hope to learn more in the near future when I visit Pasquotank and Currituck Counties.

I have started assembling the family tree and soon hope to have it linked to this page. Once again, THANKS to Willie Luffman for the work he has put into this family history.

Anyone who has any suggestions, comments or Luffman Family information please feel free to contact me. Thanks for the visit!
