Notes for George Henry Burge: The Burges were very early arrivals in North America, lan ding in Massachusetts in 1637 (Thomas Lund was a successful merchant in Dunstable Mass, in 1640, a possible ancestor of George Lund). Burges came to the Stratford Ontario area as Loyalists abt 1785. William Henry Burge homesteaded in Scarth, near Virden Man in 1882 (the same year that the 1st Lund Wes arrived in Man). A family reunion was held there about 1979. George originally farmed the family homestead with his br o t her, but it didn't work out; he became a butcher. He worked in Lidsters Butcher Shop in Elkhorn then purchased his own meat shop in Yellowgrass Sask. It was operated by his son Jim in the 1980s. Mavis remembers she and Jim finding coi ns in the straw spread on the floor. After he retired and Lil died, George travelled west and s etled in Parksville BC where he enjoyed the mild climate and ocean beaches.
