Notes for Evelyn "Toots" Boomhower: Evelyn ("Toots") Lund was a great lover of animals and ri d i ng horseback. She had a pet deer named Bambi. Sharon ( Ad ai r) Dixon remembers her mother driving for miles looki n g fo r it, and Toots's gosling that died of old age. Too t s mad e pets of her chickens and, when she moved into Elk ho rn aft er Aub died, kept budgies as a hobby. Mavis Lun d rem ember s riding her horse, and her delicious pies. Sh e als o kep t a garden and enjoyed cooking and canning. She was a leader with the Woodville Women's Institute from 1947 - '54, wi th the Mrs Adair, Goethe, Longman and Rowand. Evelyn's father George came to Woodville from Arden Onta r i o in the 1900s; the Boomhowers were Pennsylvania Dutc h a n d Loyalists who came to Canada at the time of the Ame ric a n Revolution. Her mother Emma was the daughter of Fra nk a n d Racie Goethe - Frank was the grandson and heir o f Joha n n Von Goethe, the famous writer and philosopher, b ut wa s b locked from receiving his inheritance by the Ger man gov ernm ent. The Goethe's had emigrated to the USA i n 1884, a nd ca me up to Woodville in 1905. George loved sp orts and d ancin g - he called many square dances in the ar ea. Emma wa s quie t and homeloving, and cared for her pare nts in her h ome fo r some years. They are all buried in the Woodville Cemeter y. M. Clayton, 2000/01/10: I had Mom, Margaret (Rowand) Twigg and my aunt, Mary El l e n (Rowand) Roach visiting yesterday. Mom is almost 7 9 a n d I can see her memory of past events slipping but sh e st il l remembers a lot. She is in the same lodge as Toots Lund & Emma Lund (Bernie Lund's wife, my great aunt, Hazel Lund Rowand's sister-in-law) Polly Lund was Earl Lund's wife, she is not in good health and lives in the Manor.
