I have been interested in my family history for some time now as I have grown up hearing little bits of information and stories from my grandparents. I am now trying to expand my knowledge of the family and get to know some of the characters from the past. The Lupton familly originated in Lupton, a hamlet west of Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria. The name Lupton would be from the Scandinavian invaders long before the Norman Conquest. Lupton means "Hluppa's place". From the time when churches began to keep detailed registers of births, marriages and deaths, one can trace the movement of Luptons eastward through the Aire [river] gap via Ingleton, Skipton, etc. to the Leeds area, which today has the largest number of Luptons in Britain. |
